Betsi Graves Akerstein, originally from Orlando, Florida, formally studied ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance at Studio 5d and Orlando Ballet. A teacher who strives to inspire, Betsi teaches dance at Boston Ballet School, Boston College, Harvard University and other area dance schools. In 2008, she founded Urbanity Dance Project, Boston-based jazz and contemporary dance company which she choreographs and directs. An alumna of Jacob's Pillow Choreographer's Lab (2006) and Green Street Studio's Emerging Artists Program (2008), her choreography has been reviewed as "unique and full of energy" and "gutsy and culturally poignant." Betsi is honored to join Falling Flight Project in the Fall of 2008.
